Anime edition

=Last edited 6-15-02=

I have taken it upon myself to tell you my opinions on anime, not anime in general but different anime series.  I love anime, and I love getting to see new shows so I’ve decided to put this review page up to tell my opinion of the shows I’ve seen so far.  Remember this is just My Opinion!  If you got something different to say please e-mail me at Silver_senshi17@yahoo.com.  I might even post your comments if I think they’re good.  For this page I’m going to try to exclude manga versions and plot descriptions, if I ever get around to it they’ll have their own sections.

* = You’d have to tie me down, feed me sedatives, gag me, and break my spirit with Chinese water torture to make me watch that worthless piece of trash again!

** = You’d probably still have to tie me up.  If you can catch me!

*** = not much of an opinion on it either way.  It’s not horrible, but it wouldn’t be my first choice.  I wouldn’t mind watching it again to terribly

****= Not bad, I wouldn’t mind watching more.

***** = Very good! Probably one of my favorites.

****** = The ultimate honor!  Something that I exactly would recommend, not to mention watch multiple consecutive hours of!

Anime Series

The good

The Bad

Approx. # of episodes I’ve seen

Final Judgement

Sailor Moon

You can’t count on the dubbed episodes people!  Sailor Moon (the original) is awesome!  Very funny, nice story, interesting plot line, great characters!

The villan of the day thing can get kind of drawn out and sometimes the running gags can get annoying.

Every thing but a few episodes and the stars series

{mostly dubbed some uncut Japanese both versions of all NA released movies}

*****

Ah [Oh] My Goddess

Very funny, great plot twists, excellent characters, can follow lots of different stories without running away from the basic plotline.  Extremely great characters.

Sometimes the stories can be a little slow.

Not many of the anime, but then there’s really not that many that heve been animated.

{Only uncut subtitled}

*****

Fushigi Yugi [Yuugi]

Very funny, lots of action, a great love story, absolutely awesome characters *no da*, Great plot twists, very well played, not overly drawn out

The only thing I can think of is that the later seasons that were released kinda started getting repetitive, annoying, and avoerly confusing and mushy.  But the original is awesome!

ALMOST all of the original and a little over half of one later version.

{Mostly uncut subtitled, but about 3 uncut dubbed}

******

DragonBall Z

Tons of action, wacked out characters, very funny

Battle scenes tend to get very drawn out making 10 seconds into 10 episodes (this is the main reason why I used to hate DBZ and still don’t like anything before the android saga) I also think that very young gohan is a little prick (but that’s ChiChi’s fault) he grows out of it.

Some of the earlier episodes, all of the episodes of the android saga and after

{All dubbed, one uncut}

***

DragonBall

Lots of action, wacked out characters, very funny

I liked this from the get-go the only bad thing I can think of is that I keep seeing the same episodes over and over and that gets annoying, but that’s Cartoon networks fault, not the anime.

Most of the ones that have been on Cartoon Network

{dubbed}

***

Night Walker

Lot’s of action, great storyline, great characters, funny gags, did I mention the storyline.

I haven’t really seen anything yet to dismay me.

Only one

{one uncut subbed episode}

****

Ranma ½

Absolutely Hilarous!  Freaked out characters, definetly an original, extremely funny stories, great gags,  some cool action, and the sort of love-hate relationships are pretty damn good too.

Well uh…  Huom

A few

{uncut subbed and dubbed episodes}

****

Angelic Layer

Not bad, it’s sort of like card captors, funny, good story, pretty original, good charachters

Can’t think of anything

Only a small few

{subbed, uncut}

****

Card Captors

Pretty funny, Great Characters, great plot, lots of cool twists.

A little to goofball sometimes, but not very often.

Quite a bit

{dubbed, edited}

*****

Rayearth

Excellent animation, good story, great charachters

Can’t think of anything

Only 2 or 3

{I can’t remember it was along time ago}

****

Ruruni Kenshin : Legend of Kyoto

Excellent storyline, well written, nice animation, good characters, and did I mention that it was a great story?

Well it can be a little hard to follow accaisionally, but nothing that seriously takes away from the story.

A good few, but not a whole lot

{subbed, uncut, I saw part of one as dubbed, uncut}

****

Sorcerer Hunters

Exceedingly insane characters, very funny, great plot, awesome actions.

Hmm..  I haven’t seen enough to think of something and it’s been quite awhile.

Not too many maybe 5 or so

{subbed, uncut}

****

Tenchi Muyo

Great overall plot, you might get confused if you don’t realize that the storyline tends to make a few dramatic changes over different seasons, but the basics stay the same.  Great characters, very funny.  Some nice action.

Have you ever seen Rhy-oki turn into a robot!  Not a spaceship, A robot!  Thank goodness it’s only for one season and doesn’t happen very often!

A lot

{dubbed, edited}

*****

Trigun

Magdidijious* characters, exceedingly funny, well written, great action, good story, has its nicely blended serious points as well.

*so I made up a word

Can’t think of anything

A few

{subbed, uncut}

*****

Excel Saga

HeHe…  Excel Saga…  I don’t know how to start!  Gyogulomnigysly FUNNY!  Will keep you in belly laughs all through the show!  The main plot of the main story is great and so are the main plot’s of the multiple secondary stories (which have nothing to do with the main one) not that the plot matters much because this anime is so absolutely random that half the time you don’t even remember what the plot is anyway!

The first time you watch a few episodes of Excel I can garuntee your going to get lost!  But after you adjust your mind to the idea that you can’t depend on structure, foreshadowing, sequenceing of events, and learn just to take it as it comes, segment by segment then the majesty of this top-lister shines through and burns the freaking coronas out of your eyeballs!!!!!!

A fair sized few

{subbed, uncut}

I WANT MORE!!!!!

******

Outlaw Star

Great plot, very funny, good action, awesome characters

Some episodes are sort of overly serious, but that doesn’t happen often.  Most are very well balanced.

A good sized few

{dubbed, edited, subbed, uncut, dubbed, uncut}

****

Candidate for Goddess

Funny, interesting story most of the time, decent action.

Tends to drag sometimes and get confusing.  The computer animated parts usually look kinda crappy.

A fair few.

{dubbed, I think they were uncut}

***

Tekken

A good story, lots of action.

The animation kinda crapped at times and we didn’t really get to know the “sidekick” characters very well.

Only one, is there more than that, I don’t know.

{dubbed, don’t know about the editing}

***

Cowboy Bebop

Great characters, very good balance of comedy and seriousness, great plot, great action, interesting plot twists.

You hit the occasional bum episode, but they don’t come very often.

A small few

{dubbed, edited, uncut}

*****

Green Wood

Very funny, interesting characthers, funny plots.

Slightly dragging in parts but nothing serious, occasionally confusing but it works itself out.

About 9 I think

{dubbed, uncut}

****

Orange Road

Pretty funny, a very good story

Erg it can get kinda confusing the first time through

One, I think it might’ve been a movie though.

{dubbed, uncut}

****

Mermaid Scar & Mermaid Forest

Nicely in depth story, good characters, a great story, lots of good action

Another one that can start out kind of confusing the first time around if you haven’t read any of the manga

Just these two.  To my knowledge they’re the only of this series that were ever animated

{I think I saw one of each I’m not sure it was along time ago, uncut}

****

Blue Seed

Great and pretty original character personality and design.  An awesome overall plot.  Great story, well done.  Very funny.

A little odd at the end of the series but nothing devastating.  There’s one character (can’t remember his name, he’s a villan, that gets on my nerves.)  A little too philosophical at the end maybe.

All of the original version, I don’t know if there’s more

{dubbed, uncut}

*****

Bubble Gum Crisis

Excellent action, good story

Can’t think of anything

Maybe 3

{dubbed, uncut}

***

Gundum Wing 0083

Stardust memory

A nicely developing story, good action

It can get kinda boring at times

Not many

**

Big O

I saw a couple of episodes that were pretty well written and executed.

With the exception of the Robot maid I didn’t care much for character personality or design.  I thought the plot in theory was good but that they didn’t do a very good job of pulling it off.  The storys were kinda lame and oddly put together.  But it could just be the Americanizing.

Not many

{edited, dubbed}

*

Pokemon

Pokemon oh pokemon…  well the storys not to bad, it can get extremely funny

After seeing too many the story and characters just get kinda flat and predictable,  way too much marketing

A lot, I admit I was once on the Pokemon bandwagon

{dubbed, edited}

**

Digimon

Kinda funny sometimes

It’s a Pokemon rip-off without the charm!  The characters are flat, the animation bad, the story predictable, and the villains are stupid without even trying (at least in pokemon their supposed to be that way) It takes itself too seriously and that just adds to its suckyness!!!!

Maybe 2 or 3

{dubbed, edited}

*

Escaflowne (don’t take me too seriously I’m not sure I’ve even got the right series here)

Funny, nicely drawn

Nothing that I know of so far

Maybe 2 or 3

{dubbed, edited}

***

KiKi’s Delivery Service

Good sweet story, funny, some of the animation is very nicely done especially the backgrounds

It drags at one point, but it does snap back out with a nice bang

Just this, it’s a movie

{dubbed, I don’t know if it was cut or not}

*****

Princess Mononke

The characters were nicely developed and drawn, it had it’s moments both funny and serious.

I’m sorry.  I know that a lot of people seem to think this is like a landmark anime but I primarily hated it!  It started out alright enough, but once the climax starte building up and then everything after that was just too damn bizarre.  I t was a little too reminiscent of Animal Farm for me.  The end messege wasn’t necessarily bad but the delivery is so overdrawn, overdone, overpraised, and over selfrighteous that the messege was twisted into a pulp and lost into the bowls of bad writing hell!

Just this, I’m pretty sure it’s just this movie

{dubbed, uncut}

*

Akira

Ah Akira, another one with an acceptionally richer plot than most anime.  But the difference is…  This anime lives up to the hype.  The actions great, the story’s great, it’s a bit confusing but that’s only because they had to meet a time requirement or it’d take forever to tell the story (the manga is extremely more detailed).

Uhhh…  The whole losing detail because of time restraints that I just mentioned.  That’s really all I can think of, but hey that’s comparing it to the manga and I’m trying to avoid that.

The movie, as far as I know that’s the only thing animated

{dubbed, uncut}

****

Yu Yu Hackasu

Very funy, good story, good characters, lotsa action.

Some of the characters kind of grated on my nerves at first but you learn to luv ‘em.

A good few

{dubbed, supposedly uncut}

****

Plastic Little

Very funny story, funny characters, good action.

Not for little kids, there’s a whole lota fan service for all you anime babe loving folk out there(just not my personal first choice, though it can be funny) I hear if you get it on DVD there’s even a jiggle-meter.

Just one, is there more? Probably is.

****

Nadesco

Not sure I spelled that right, anyway…  Good character design, decent though fairly un-original plot, reincarnation, revenge, torn between loyalties, yadda yadda yadda, some good action

It’s not incredibly original, though I do like that they made the past lives from the Inca empire rather than ancient Japan or China.  It sort of lags at times, but I think I was half asleep while watching, so that could just be me.

Very few, maybe 3

(subbed, uncut)

A few things to know:

These are only my opinions!

NA = North America

Dubbed = when it’s translated and voice overs are done

{} = that’s what versions of the anime I’ve seen

[ ] = sometimes there are variations in the name that are small but considerable

A lot of anime will have the original or the first version season(s) made as well as additional seasons that were often done considerably later.  These extra seasons are often only released on video and usually aren’t as good as their mother series.

Cut, edited, Americanized = whether for the better or the not so bad, this is when the American censors get a hold of an anime and start changing things like dialogue and cutting out what they consider offensive scenes.  A lot is lost to cutting.

Subbed, Subtitled = translated but the words are written across the screen somewhere and the original voices are left in tact.

I don’t have a lot of choice or selection of anime so I’ll certainly take suggestions and recommendations, but don’t count on me actually getting to watch them.

If you’ve got a constructive comment, reply, or argument, I’d love to hear it.  You can flame too if you want, but I don’t plan on wasting my time crying because you have no constructive criticism or the brain of a tropical fish.
